Natural Acne Treatments: Options for Natural Skin Care

Salicylic Acid or Acetylsalicylic Acid as Acne Medication

Salicylic Acid is commonly used as an important ingredient in many acne creams. It opens clogged pores, causes the skin cells to shed more easily, and neutralizes bacteria. It is also known to reduce hyperpigmentation when used in higher concentrations.

If you prefer using an inexpensive acne treatment then a good alternative to products containing salicylic acid is aspirin. But, be warned. Products containing this ingredient usually contain higher concentration levels which also make it more effective than simple aspirin tablets.

If you decide that you'd like to try using aspirin to treat your skin problems then use it as an exfoliant or in a mask. To make a mask, simply dissolve 3 or 4 adult aspirins with a tablespoon of water until you make a paste. Apply the paste all over your face or on the affected area.

You can also add yogurt and/or honey to make the aspirin mask thicker in consistency. If you are allergic to aspirin, then you should not use this type of mask.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has been used in Australia to treat dandruff and Candidiasis. It is a potent antiseptic and can be used to treat acne. In fact, its results are much like those achieved using benzoyl peroxide, however, the results take longer to appear.

Tea tree oil can be used topically. However, you should first dilute it before applying because if not, it may cause irritation. It is also possible that you might have to use a moisturizer to counteract the dryness brought on by this product.

Apply a thin layer twice a day on all the area affected with acne (whole face, chest or back) and then always use sun protection.  If you are allergic to salycilic acid or to aspirin do not use the product and if you experience stinging or irritation (very unlikely) you must stop using the product and consult your physician.
